Is ceramic coating worth it? An honest answer

Ceramic coating gets sold as magic. It isn't — it's chemistry. A ceramic coating is a liquid polymer that bonds to your clear coat and cures into a hard, glass-like layer. Once cured, it's hydrophobic (water beads and rolls off), UV-stable (slows oxidation and fading), and far easier to wash, because dirt and road film struggle to stick to it.

What it is not: a force field. A coating won't stop rock chips, door dings, or scratches from an automatic car wash brush. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling, not detailing.

So is it worth it? If you plan to keep the car more than a couple of years, park outside, or simply care how it looks — yes. The math is simple: a coating means fewer corrections down the road, faster washes, and paint that still looks deep when it's time to sell. Resale value follows paint condition more than most people expect.

One thing that matters more than the coating brand: prep. A ceramic coating locks in whatever is underneath it — including swirls and haze. That's why we always correct the paint before coating it. Sealing in damage just makes the damage shinier.
